Woven in Japan with gold metallic thread, this cushion began life as a vintage silk Obi - the ceremonial sash worn with a Kimono.

It's been carefully rebuilt into a piece your home can live with, where the light catches the brocade differently by the hour.

The motif is a tortoise shell (Kikkō-tsunagi) - for centuries it has stood for longevity.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Once it's gone, this exact pattern won't be repeated.

What does the motif mean?

Tortoise Shell 亀甲

A hexagonal, interlocking pattern inspired by the shell of a tortoise, an animal believed in Japanese folklore to live for ten thousand years.
Alongside the crane, it's one of Japan's core symbols of longevity, health, and enduring good fortune.
