Woven in Japan with gold metallic thread, this cushion began life as a vintage silk Obi - the ceremonial sash worn with a Kimono.

It's been carefully rebuilt into a piece your home can live with, where the light catches the brocade differently by the hour.

The motifs are mandarin orange, cherry blossom and peony - for centuries it has stood for youth, renewal and prosperity, respectively.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Once it's gone, this exact pattern won't be repeated.

What does the motif mean?

Mandarin Orange 橘

An evergreen citrus that bears fruit and flowers at once, the mandarin orange, Tachibana, symbolises youth and vitality, since it appears to defy the usual cycle of seasons.
It's also tied to nobility, having long been used in Japanese imperial and family crests.
