Woven in Japan with gold metallic thread, this cushion began life as a vintage silk Obi - the ceremonial sash worn with a Kimono.

It's been carefully rebuilt into a piece your home can live with, where the light catches the brocade differently by the hour.

The motifs are mandarin duck, iris and chrysanthemum - for centuries it has stood for marital love, strength and longevity, respectively.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Once it's gone, this exact pattern won't be repeated.

What does the motif mean?

Oshidori 鴛鴦

Mandarin ducks, Oshidori, are traditionally believed to mate for life, and a devoted couple is still described in Japanese as an "Oshidori couple."
The motif symbolises unwavering marital love and loyalty.
