Woven in Japan with silver metallic thread, this cushion began life as a vintage silk Obi - the ceremonial sash worn with a Kimono.

It's been carefully rebuilt into a piece your home can live with, where the light catches the brocade differently by the hour.

The motif is a wave - for centuries it has stood for good fortune and prosperity.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Once it's gone, this exact pattern won't be repeated.

What does the motif mean?

Waves 波

The waves represent a pattern of perfectly regular, unbroken ripples rather than a chaotic swell.
That regularity is the whole point: the design became a symbolic wish for calm and peace stretching on endlessly, since the identical waves repeat outward with no visible end, and by extension, for good fortune and prosperity carrying forward the same way.
